Cross-Border Institute for International Studies and Criminal Justice
Mission
The general mission of the Institute is to carry out fundamental scientific research, transfer knowledge to society through scientific research, and capitalize on and disseminate the results obtained. The Institute also has the status of an inter-faculty department. This subdivision promotes education and training in the field of European and International Studies by initiating and developing specific multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary post-graduate continuing education and other programs, by stimulating collaboration, the exchange of ideas and capitalizing on the experience of teachers and researchers from the university faculties, as well as researchers who are full, honorary and associate members of the Institute in the fields of law, administrative sciences, economic studies, international relations and European studies, political sciences, security studies, history, psychology, sociology, philosophy, engineering, environment, artificial intelligence.
Objectives
The Institute aims to foster individual and institutional performance, as well as the transition to open science, while maintaining the highest standards of research quality. It starts from the need to develop the capacity for strategic analysis and coordination at the level of the research authority by attracting and continuously training a body of experts in the field of science and innovation policy.

The Institute's overall objectives are focused on promoting knowledge and understanding of globalized societal phenomena and their cross-border implications. Its multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches integrate international studies, diplomatic efforts, security strategies, and conflict prevention measures.
The Institute creates innovative knowledge products, promotes best practices and norms, and provides legal and policy advice. It supports the capacity building of states, civil society, and private sector stakeholders by providing access to independent expertise and information on governance and security sector reform in cross-border issues, such as those affecting the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The Institute has scientific collaboration partnerships with the Institute of Legal Research of the Academy of Moldova and the Academy of Law in Odessa, Ukraine.
Activities
The Institute focuses on policy-oriented analysis through publications and events. Its journal, "Cross-border Journal for International Studies," is indexed in relevant international databases and complemented by news-based briefs and commentaries.
The Institute's events bring together experts, government officials, academics, scholars, researchers, policymakers, media and civil society representatives from EU Member States and worldwide. These events encourage dialogue, enhance analytical capacity and shape common approaches.
