Dragoș C. Mateescu is a Senior Analyst at the Romanian Diplomatic Institute (IDR) and Associate Lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest (since 2020). He previously served as Director of the Expertise Provision Directorate within IDR (2022–2024) and was a lecturer in International Relations and European Studies at Izmir University of Economics, Turkey (2002–2020). A former officer in the Romanian Armed Forces, in the paratrooper and special operations units (1991–2001), he holds a PhD in International Relations from Nottingham Trent University, UK (2011), with a dissertation titled “The European Union, State of Exception and State Transformation: Turkey, Romania and Minority Politics”. He holds two MA degrees – in European Studies (Izmir University of Economics, 2004) and American Studies (Dokuz Eylül University, Izmir, 2003) - and a BA in Political Science (English program) from the University of Bucharest (2001). He graduated from “Mihai Viteazul” Military High School in Alba Iulia (1988) and from the “Nicolae Bălcescu” Military Academy in Sibiu (1991).
His research explores European integration, state transformation, and regional security in the Black Sea and Middle East. Dr Mateescu has contributed regularly to Veridica with analytical editorials since its founding in 2021.
