
Lucian Fătu is a career diplomat. On September 4, 2024, by Decision of the Prime-Minister of Romania, he was appointed President, with the rank of State Secretary, of the Euro-Atlantic Center for Resilience in Bucharest.
Lucian Fătu passed his entry exam to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania in 1992. Subsequently, he achieved all diplomatic ranks, became a career Ambassador and held a number of positions in the Bucharest Headquarters and in the Romanian Foreign Service
Between 1995-1999, he was political oficer in the Romanian Embassy in Washington, where he worked for the adoption and implementation of the bilateral Strategic Partnership roadmap and to the accession of Romania to the Partnership for Peace initiative, one major pre-requisite to NATO membership.
Betwen 2000-2001, he was Deputy Head of Mission in the Romanian Embassy in London.
Since 2001, Lucian Fătu served four times as Ambassador E. and P. of Romania, i.e. to the Republic of Lithuania, with accreditation to the Republic of Latvia (2001-2004), to the Republic of Finland, with accreditation to the Republic of Estonia (2006-2011), to the Hellenic Republic (2013-2019), and to the Kingdom of the Netherlands (2020-2024). In these positions, as well as those of Deputy Director General for EU Affairs (2004-2005) and National Coordinator for the EU Danube Strategy (2011-2012) in Bucharest, he was involved in the completion of the accession negotiations and first stages of Romania’s EU integration.
In recognition of his service to the advancement of the Romanian-Finnish relations, he was awarded the Order of the Lion of Finland in the highest rank of Commander Grand Cross.
Lucian Fătu graduated from the Politechnical University in Bucharest (1984), and from the first class (1992) of the National School for Political and Administrative Studies (NSPAS). He holds an MA in Foreign Relations from NSPAS and one in European Integration from the University of Limerick, Republic of Ireland.
