
Mr. Ion SANDU served as the Permanent Representative of Romania to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) during 1997–2001 and 2005–2016. Since 2010, he has been a Full Member of the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences “Gheorghe Ionescu–Șișești” and was awarded the Romanian Academy Prize for 2010 in the Agronomic and Forestry Sciences category for his work entitled “Climate Change in Romania and its Effects on Agriculture.”
He graduated from the Faculty of Physics, specializing in Atmospheric Physics, at the University of Bucharest in 1976. He later completed a specialization at the National Environmental Research Institute (NERI) in Denmark in 1993. He holds a PhD in Physics, with a doctoral thesis on “Physical and Mathematical Modeling of Diffusion and Transport Processes of Pollutants at Local and Macroscale Levels. Applications to the Calculation of Pollutant Concentrations across the Romanian Territory” (1995). Since 1996, he has held the position of Senior Principal Scientific Researcher (Grade I).
